End Of Summer Day Trips
Summer is quickly coming to an end. And while we love the sights and temperatures of fall, it’s always a little hard to say goodbye to long, sun-filled days.
How do you plan to spend the last days of summer? We’re fortunate enough to be close to it all: beaches, mountains, and adventure. Below are eight day trips you can take from Hoboken or Jersey City to soak up the last of the season.
Pretty obvious, but we couldn’t leave the Jersey Shore off our list. Stroll the boardwalk in Asbury Park, order from your favorite food stands, or just set up your towel and beach chairs for a day of sun. Soothing sounds of the ocean, sand underfoot, and drink in hand, the Jersey Shore is a perfect place to end summer.
Atlantic City is next on the list, and while some features are not currently open due to the COVID-19, there is still plenty to do. Of course, hitting up the beach and boardwalk is an option here if you prefer to spend time outdoors. Casinos are operating at 25% capacity, so you can squeeze some time in at a table before enjoying a meal at one of the many top-notch restaurants.
If the buzz of Atlantic City is too much for you, Cape May is an alternative. Known as ‘America’s Original Seaside Resort,’ the seashore town features Jersey beaches, a rich history, and architectural diversity. After parking the car, rent an electric bike, and explore the entire town!
Delaware Water Gap
For a day full of adventure, head to the Delaware Water Gap. The National Recreation Area features 40 miles of the Delaware River and over 100 miles of hiking trails. Water activities include rafting down the river, kayaking, and fishing.
Liberty State Park
With views of the Manhattan skyline, New York Harbor, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Liberty State Park gives you all sights without the crowds. The park is over 1,200 acres, and includes Liberty Walk, Liberty Science Center (re-opening Labor Day Weekend!), and Liberation Monument. Pack a picnic and enjoy all the park has to offer!
Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach is a must for adventure lovers. With arcades, an aquarium, mini-golf, amusement park, and adventure lookout, there is something for everyone. If spectating is more your thing, there’s also a beach, shopping, and plenty of places to pick up some delicious food or sweet treats.
Turtle Back Zoo
You may not be able to travel far this summer, but you can enjoy interacting with animals from around the world! Turtle Back Zoo has 40 animal exhibits, 10 regional exhibits, and 19 features, including a Prehistoric Playground, Treetop Adventure Course, and Savanna Café
Before heading out to one of these places, make sure you check in to learn about any restrictions or reservations required due to COVID-19. Then, pack up your car and enjoy some time away!
